One of the most powerful Benedictine abbeys of Carolingian Europe, it ower its frmae to its relics of the Holy Cross. It was built and subsequently altered from the 8th to the 11th century. Its famous octogonal tower, known as La Tour de Charlemagne, its magnificent Gothic carvings and the treasury, make it one of the most important heritage sites from the Middle Ages. |
