Founded in 1079 by Saint-Gérard, in the heart of the area known as "Entre-Deux-Mers", this benedictine abbey soon became a lively and well-known religious, cultural and economic centre. The majestic buildings that remain today are very typical of the Romanesque style. The celebrated capitals carved with biblical subjects and plants are the expression of an inspired symbolic and allegorical language. |
