In 1806 Emperor Napoleon I erected a triumphal arch to the glory of the Great Army.

After 1830 Revolution, king Louis-Philippe dedicated the monument to the armies of the Revolution and of the Empire. The arch bears the names of the illustrious in the history of France and sculpted reliefs. The terrace offers a unique panoramic view of the historic main thoroughfare of Paris.
