Built over some Gallo-Roman town buildings, in turn standing on a Neolithic site (4 500/4 000 BC), the château of the Counts of Anjou is surrounded by a fortress constructed by Saint Louis. In the late 14th century, Louis I,duc d'Anjou, brother of Charles V, ordered the huge wall-hanging of the Apocalypse. A visit is enhanced by the Bout-du-Monde gardens.
