Galiot de Genouillac, Grand Master of Artillery to François I, had the château built between 1520 and 1540. Originally, the buildings formed an enormous quadrangle richly decorated with carvings. Only the west wing remains, the decoration of which includes emblems, military scenes and scenes from the life of Hercules.
