Château belonging to the Massiot family since 1586, it was destroyed in the 17th century and totally rebuilt around 1790 by the archiecte Louis who also built Château Margaux and the hall of the thater of Bordeaux.
The composer and violonist Pierre Rode, first violin in Bonaparte's orchestra, lived here. He had a relationship with a young Itakina singer la Grassini, who happened to be also Napoleon Bonaprate's mistress.
The two lovers were thus obliged to flee to Germany and Russia. La Grassini will be later in Great Britain where she will be Wellington mistress!
Rode will stay at the Château in 1828 and will die in a neighbourg chateau in 1830.

Our activities and partnerships
Vineyards and gastronomySaint Emilion wines have been famous for ceturies and the city itself is full of interests. It lies perched on a hill top about 30 mins from the Château and although the medieval walls are now partly concealed by houses, a walk or drive around the outside gives a good idea of what it could have been like in the medieval times. It is still a pleasure to walk around in the narrow cobbled streets and peer into the craft shops, stop at the wine museum or to see the vast underground wine cellar. Visits to some of the vineyards can be arranged from there. Others activities and trainingsThe Garonne river is close by and there are cruises and a boat base where you can hire canoes and lots of fishing spots. At Buzet sur Baïse, boats can be hired for a day on the river there.
There are also two golf courses and a local flying club with glidders.
Near Casteljaloux (15kms)is the beginning of the great pine forrest, a thousand hectares to ride or walk in, which streches to the beautifal sandy beaches alng the Atlantic coast. nearbyGolf within 15 kilometres Horse riding within 15 kilometres |
