Château belonging to the Massiot family since 1586, it was destroyed in the 17th century and totally rebuilt around 1790 by the archiecte Louis who also built Château Margaux and the hall of the thater of Bordeaux. The composer and violonist Pierre Rode, first violin in Bonaparte's orchestra, lived here. He had a relationship with a young Itakina singer la Grassini, who happened to be also Napoleon Bonaprate's mistress. The two lovers were thus obliged to flee to Germany and Russia. La Grassini will be later in Great Britain where she will be Wellington mistress! Rode will stay at the Château in 1828 and will die in a neighbourg chateau in 1830. |
